Shanghai traffic police are being equipped with new electric whistles, which send out louder warnings and are more hygienic to use.
The electric whistle is shaped like a pocket torch and officers can send out a warning simply by pressing a button. This avoids direct contact with the mouth, which will be welcomed by many officers as it means they can now wear face masks when directing traffic.
The electric whistle has three whistle sounds and is louder than traditional versions. Warnings are also more specific, with an officer able to point the whistle at the targeted person or vehicle.
