Since the increased number of terror attacks, different cities around the country have stepped up their efforts to counter such incidents.

There are one thousand police officers now who carry guns when on routine patrol in Shanghai, in a bid to stop violent crimes in a short time. The city's police has held drills for emergency cases including carjackings and high rise fires.

In Guangzhou, an exercise was held earlier this month to cope with violent and terrorist attacks in densely populated areas.

In Xinjiang, a recent anti-terrorist drill aimed to test the cooperation and efficiency of air and ground troops in pinpointing and attacking terrorists' camps.

Meanwhile, the People's Public Security University of China will take in students for an anti-terrorism major; a new subject launched this year, that aims to create anti-terrorism professionals.
