World major space powers met in Beijing on Monday to report on the progress made in coping with space debris at the 32nd Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee (IADC) meeting.

At the meeting, Xu Dazhe, director of the China National Space Administration (CNSA), said his organization has put into place an action plan, a coordination mechanism and team to tackle space debris.

"As a responsible space power, China attaches great importance to solving the problem," said Xu.

Tian Yulong, secretary-general of the CNSA, said China has preliminarily established a space debris monitoring and early warning system, and adopted various protection measures such as frequently de-orbiting out-of-use satellites.

The IADC, founded in 1993, is the sole inter-governmental organization for coordinating activities of different space administrations and boosting technology cooperation and exchanges in the field of space debris.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) from the US, the European Space Agency and the Russian Federal Space Agency, and space organizations from several other countries attended the IADC meeting.
