The summer blockbuster season may have already kicked off with "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" but there are more big budget flicks that are set to hit the big screen.

Chinese moviegoers are going to get a chance to see some of the biggest films to be released this year, both domestic and foreign.

Currently playing is "A Mysterious Bullet", whose director Sun Tie won an award for his film "God". His current work is a suspenseful, thrilling war story about human life and death.

"This movie is filmed in the backdrop of the war. It's a movie exposing humanity and brotherhood," said the producer of "A Mysterious Bullet", Yuan Xibo.

Another hotly anticipated film, which has been confirmed on the Cannes 2014 line-up is Chinese film-maker Zhang Yimou's latest work, "Coming Home", which stars Chen Daoming and Gong Li.

The story is about a Chinese man who is forced into marriage but flees to America. When finally returning home years later, he is rejected by his family.

The film portrays very deep, complex emotions and a heartbreaking story that is sure to catch the attention of audiences this summer.

"This story has a love theme. The movie doesn't need any signs to specify the times the lovers are in, it doesn't even need to tell what their status is. It's two people holding on to each other," actor Chen Daoming said.

For action movie lovers, "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will hit the Chinese silver screen on May 23. The American superhero film is set in two time-periods: the apocalyptic future and 1973. The film's star, Wolverine played by Hugh Jackman, is sent back in time to prevent an event that leads to disaster for mutants.

Directed by Bryan Singer, the ensemble cast reunites old characters from previous instalments of the X-men series.
