Beijing traffic police are still looking for the owner of a horse that ran free on a major thoroughfare on Saturday.

Drivers tried to cut off the runaway with their cars as it galloped on the city's North 5th Ring Road, according to a witness surnamed Lin.

Lin said it was quite a sight to watch the majestic beast overtake cars and weave through traffic.

As one woman driver rubbernecked to catch a glimpse of the horse taking a rest, her yellow dog jumped from the car window to join the steed, said the witness.

The horse resumed its run with dog in tow and their owners in chase.

Drivers finally managed to round up the equine-canine duo, and the animals were returned to their respective owners.

All involved in the incident disappeared before police arrived.

Traffic police said the owner remains unidentified and they are investigating how the horse escaped.
