At least 10 protestors and 29 policemen were injured as they clashed at a rally Saturday against a plan to build a waste incinerator in east China's Hangzhou city, capital of Zhejiang Province, authorities said.

One protestor was severely injured but was out of life danger, while a policeman was also severely injured.

More than 30 cars were overturned. The protestors set two police cars on fire and smashed another four.

The highway linking Hangzhou and Huizhou was closed due to the protest in Zhongtai Township, Yuhang District of Hangzhou City, where the plant is scheduled to be built.

About 700 policemen are maintaining the order on the highway.

Meanwhile, another major provincial road was closed due to the rally.

The site of the incinerator plant was made public in April. Residents near the site fear that it will be harmful to their health and add to pollution.
