China's State Oceanic Administration (SOA) has predicated more waves of "a disastrous nature" in the South China Sea this year.

For 80 to 90 days this year, there will be tropical cyclone-induced catastrophic waves with a height of at least 10 meters, slightly above the average figure, said an SOA forecast report.

Four to six of these typhoon waves might directly affect southeastern coastal areas.

According to the SOA, new buoys in the region are monitoring tsunamis and will enable the administration to issue tsunami warnings two hours earlier.
