A former senior official from southwest China's Guizhou Province has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office, said the CPC discipline inspection agency on Thursday.

Investigations found that Liao Shaohua, a former Standing Committee member of the CPC Guizhou Provincial Committee and Party chief of Zunyi City, used his positions to seek profits and accepted bribes, said a statement from the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI).

Liao abused his power and caused serious loss of state property, the statement said. He also violated Party disciplines and is suspected of breaking the law. His case has been handed over to prosecutors.

The commission announced in October that Liao was being investigated for graft. He was removed from his posts days later.

The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) on Thursday also said it has filed its own investigation against Liao.

"Measures have been imposed on Liao and the investigation is under way," the SPP said in a statement.
