A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has urged Party officials to uncover improper behavior as the antidecadence campaign gears up.

Liu Yunshan, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks Tuesday at a meeting on the ongoing "mass-line" campaign to make the government more accessible to the public, while cleaning up undesirable work styles -- formalism, bureaucracy, hedonism and extravagance -- launched in June 2013, .

Noting that some local units and officials were not serious and only pretended to follow the campaign, Liu urged to double checking previous antidecadence efforts to any mistakes or slackness.

According to Liu, the campaign will soon enter the stage of self-criticism and criticism of others to uncover problems to be solved, and those involved must follow the rules set down by the central authorities step by step.

"Efforts to uncover problems must be deep and honest and target a specific deed done by a specific person," Liu said.

Liu urged officials at each level to have face-to-face talks with both their superiors and staff concerning each other's thoughts and issues.

"Criticism and self-criticism should be pointed and free of the concerns of personal relationships... so as to move the criticized deep in their hearts," Liu said.

Meanwhile, Liu urged Party committees at all levels to strengthen guidance and supervision during the campaign, calling for severe punishment for disciplinary violators on a case by case basis.

The second phase of the mass line campaign is scheduled till September, targeting more low-level departments and leaderships, while the first phase focused on central and provincial-level departments.
