The China Food and Drug Administration said a excess of food additives and bacteria colonies are the major problems plaguing the bottled water and soy sauce industries.

The CFDA says the samples were taken from 11 types of food and drinks, from nearly 8,000 companies. Authorities have tested more than 2,800 kinds of bottled water. 11.9 percent were below the required standard. It also tested more than seven hundred types of soy sauce from 500 companies. No safety issues were found in products of infant formula milk powder, wheat meal, or chocolates. Lists of below standard products and company names can be found on its official website.

Officials state that most of these products were produced by smaller sized companies and workshops.

"We've attached great importance to food-processing in small-sized workshops. Local food safety departments are required to monitor the production there. Last year, we cooperated with health departments to inform food production companies to guarantee their safety and quality." Ma Chunliang with China Food And Drug Admin. said.
