The city's commerce authority received 240 consumer complaints during the Labor Day holiday, up 12 percent from the same period last year.

Of all the complaints the administration received through its 12315 hotline, online shopping complaints rose from last year, though there were fewer complaints about brick-and-mortar stores, according to the Shanghai Administration for Industry and Commerce.

There were 77 complaints about online shopping, 52 more than last year. There were more complaints about after-sales service, notably in the telecommunication, Internet service, computer and food industries. The administration said that the trend shows that companies need to strengthen the integrity and capability of their after-sales service.

The administration received seven complaints about tourism service and eight complaints about restaurant and hotel service, a clear rise from the single complaint it got last year about tourism and the two complaints it received about restaurant and hotel service.

The administration said that it would pass on the complaints to the district level authorities and consumer counsels.
