A police officer squared off with a drunk man who claimed he was a mythical character on a quest to find his brother "The Monkey King" while stumbling through the streets of Yangzhou, Jiangsu province on Friday night.

The man, soaked from rain, was heard mumbling about the character from the Chinese literary classic Journey To The West before he slumped at the gate of a local police station.

When an officer tried to get him inside, the man jumped into a tai chi stance and yelled "I'm the Jiangxi White Dragon Horse!"

The officer, familiar with the story, played along and told him they must find his "master and two brothers."

The inebriated man eventually let down his guard, but not before screaming, "You stay away from me monster!"

The officer persuaded the man that he was actually helping him fight monsters and got him indoors.

The man was later picked up by a co-worker, who he left happily with while repeating, "You're finally here, bro."
