Li Chuncheng, former vice Party chief of China's Sichuan province has been stripped of his public post and membership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the party's disciplinary watchdog said Tuesday.

Li took the advantage of his position to seek gains for others, as well as accepting large bribes in large amounts, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC said in a statement.

His wife and daughter were found to have accepted bribes in the form of money and property, and Li also took advantage of his post to seek profits for his brother's business, it said.

Li, "corrupt and degenerate," abused his power to conduct "feudalistic superstitious activities", causing huge losses to national finance, the statement noted.

The Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee decided to expel Li from the CPC and his public office as he has seriously violated Party rules, it noted.

Li's illegal gains have been confiscated and his case will be transferred to judicial organs.

Li was first put under investigation for alleged discipline violation in October, 2012.
