A man was sentenced to death for killing a coworker he learned was about to marry after having rejected his romantic advances years earlier, a court in Hunan Province ruled Tuesday.
He also was ordered to pay compensation of about 25,000 yuan (US$4,000) to the victim's family, news portal voc.com.cn reported Wednesday.
Tang Kunlun's romantic advances were rejected by the woman, Xiao Li, when they worked together at a supermarket in Changsha, Hunan Province in 2009.
Tang quit his job after he was spurned, but learned when he started working there again on April 25, 2013 that Xiao Li planned to return home to marry.
That same day, he stopped Xiao Li, who was ready to leave the supermarket with her luggage, and killed her by plunging a fruit knife into her chest.
Tang was nabbed by police late that evening. Xiao Li died despite attempts to revive her, the report said.
