The Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center starts releasing pure hourly readings of the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) Tuesday, the local environmental bureau said Monday.

The AQI's classifications and recommended practices remain the same.

The 24-hour average readings remain the reference standard for early warnings.
