A Chinese man died immediately and another seriously injured in Cambodia on Saturday morning when their pick- up truck overturned due to drowsy driving, a local police chief said.

The accident took place in northwestern Battambang province's Ratanak Mondol district. Khum Sao Noy, traffic police chief of Ratanak Mondol district, said a driver Hong Zeping, 51, died on the spot and a Chinese passenger Hong Zechai, 48, sustained a serious injury when the truck veered off the road and overturned several times.

"We suspected that the accident was caused by drowsy driving because the dead victim, along with his friend, drove the car from Phnom Penh City at night to their factory in the district," he said, adding the injured man was sent to hospital soon after the accident.

The victims were staff of Hunan Er-kang pharmaceutical factory, which is located about 320 km northwest of Phnom Penh City.
