Shanghai had more than 14 million residents with Shanghai household registration, or hukou, at the end of 2013, xinmin.cn reported.

The city's population of residents over 60 years old increased by 5.5 percent from the previous year and accounted for 27.1 percent of people with local household registration.

The average life expectancy of a city resident reached more than 82 years old in 2013.
