Building collapse traps two in East China

Rescuers are racing against time as two people remained trapped after an apartment building collapsed Friday morning in East China's Zhejiang province.

Firefighters and police arrived immediately and have rescued five people after a five-story, dilapidated building crumbled around 8:45 am in Fenghua city,according to the city government's offcial micro blog account on Sina Weibo.

The building has been there for 20 years and houses 15 families.

Sources said residents reported cracks on the wall but their concerns had not been addressed.

There is a dire situation at the scene as no machines can be used, leaving rescuers to pick through the rubble and dust for victims.

City government will hold a news briefing at 1 pm near the scene.

Two of the rescued were rushed to hospital. One of them is a woman in her 40s, while the other one inhaled large amounts of dust.
