The China Youth Development Foundation and Samsung Electronics co-launched the 2014 Samsung Smart School on Tuesday in Beijing.

The charity project started at Mingyuan School in the capital's southeastern outskirt, and provides the school, mainly composed of students from migrant worker families, with digital devices including tablets, laptops and TV sets, as teaching assistance appliances. The project will spread to other major Chinese cities in the next few years, organizers said.

Samsung did not reveal the cost of its donations.

"We're proud of our innovation and high technology. We'd love to make use of our advantage to bring solutions to the kids, and let their dreams fly to a brighter future," said Jaesoon Park, president of the Greater China region of Samsung Electronics, in his speech at the opening ceremony.

"As we enter the digital era, we are glad to have such a project to overcome the gap between students from vulnerable groups and those in educationally developed areas, to explore more fairness," said Yang Xiaoyu, deputy secretary-in-chief of the foundation. He said he is confident the project will create an example for further bilateral charity cooperation.
