A 2-year-old girl in East China's Jiangsu province has fallen into a coma after eating anti-diarrheal drugs on Tuesday.

The girl, who was being taken care of by her grandmother, was taken to a hospital in Suzhou city on Tuesday morning after her grandmother found she had eaten anti-diarrheal pills, Yangtze Evening News reported.

The baby might have thought that the pills were candy, her grandmother told the newspaper.

Both the girl's parents are migrant workers in Suzhou who don't have sufficient time to supervise her.

A doctor said the girl's respiratory system has been affected by the drugs. She remained in a coma in the intensive care unit of the hospital as of Wednesday afternoon.
