Shanghai police have seized 99 suspicious vehicles and have investigated 42 cases of drunk driving in a recent campaign against late night crimes, the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau said in a press release Saturday.

The bureau's criminal, public order, traffic and special police divisions cooperated in Saturday's campaign. Their joint operation covered areas where late night crimes most frequently take place.

In one case, Songjiang district police arrested four men around 1 am at the entrance to the G60 expressway. The officers stopped a car and found the four men inside behaving suspiciously.

After being interrogated, the four men admitted to coercing a man surnamed Hu, who worked in an office on Wencheng Road, to write them a 3,000-yuan ($482) IOU Friday morning. They drove Hu's car away after getting the note. Police were still investigating the case Saturday.

In a separate campaign, the exit and entry administration division launched an investigation into three companies for illegally hiring 10 foreigners, according to the police press release. Police undertook a campaign against crimes involving foreigners from Wednesday to Friday.
