A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Saturday urged officials to learn president Xi Jinping's recent remarks in carrying out the mass line campaign second phase.

Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, told a meeting of officials on Saturday that Xi's remarks in Henan Province, and books listed by the authorities should be studied seriously.

During his visit to Henan this week, Xi suggested a more stern and sharp approach in the ongoing anti-decadence campaign to press Party officials and cadres to improve their work style.

Xi visited the memorial to Jiao Yulu, a model official who worked in Lankao county in the 1960s. Jiao devoted his life to combating sandstorms, saline-alkali land disasters and floods, known as the "three disasters" that then plagued the county. He died of liver cancer in 1964 at the age of 42.

Through his various posts, Xi has been trumpeting Jiao as a model official who was responsible and cared for the people.

Liu urged officials to learn from Jiao, other model officials and martyrs in the revolutionary era, adding that study should coincide with improvement in practice.
