China offers to assist Australia in search operation

China says it attaches great importance to the latest information coming from Australia, and will offer any assistance in verifying the floating objects.  [Special coverage]

China's embassy in Australia has initiated an "emergency mechanism" and told embassy staff to stay in close touch with the Australian government over developments. Staff have been told to provide all help needed to Australian authorities in their search efforts.
