High cholesterol is the most common health problem for both women and men in Beijing, according to the recent report of the Beijing Health Management Association.

Complications from the chronic disease have become the leading cause of death, said the report. Dyslipidemia (37.8%) ranked first in the top ten abnormal physical conditions for men, followed by fatty liver (35.3%), overweight (33.5%) and osteoporosis (18.8%); the four most common diseases for women are dyslipidemia (27.5%), osteoporosis (22.2%), abnormal Pap tests (21.6%) and overweight (19.9%). The report was based on the medical exam results of around three million people at 187 municipal medical institutions in 2012.
