Volunteers for tree planting

The Beijing Municipal Bureau of Landscape and Forestry announced that 21 sites will be open to individuals and corporations to plant trees on April 5, Beijing Arbor Day. The locations are scattered throughout Mentougou, Fangshang and Huairou districts, Yanqing county and other suburban areas in Beijing, the Beijing News reported.

According to bureau staff, people can apply now for permission to participate in the tree planting. Volunteers will be provided with free saplings and planting tools. In related news, 891 trees in the downtown areas can be adopted by people for an annual fee of at least 1,000 yuan ($162.80) for each tree.
