Vietnamese search teams say they will widen the search area, after three days' efforts with no trace of the missing plane.  [Special coverage]

Vietnam has sent four aircraft and 12 ships to comb the waters, and asked private fishing boats to inform the government of any information that might help locate the plane. Vietnam has already set up three command posts to guide the search and rescue effort. But it has not found any meaningful clues.

Authorities also confirmed that a floating object, which was spotted at sea on Monday by a commercial plane, was not one of the plane's life rafts, but a cable reel.
