The warship arrived at the waters where the aircraft lost contact at around 3:50 a.m. on Monday, three hours ahead of schedule. It started rescue operations upon its arrival.

A Chinese amphibious landing vessel and two other warships have been on their way to the same area. They are expected to arrive on Tuesday.

"There are now 174 Malaysian destroyers and three fishing boats in this area. We are carrying out the search mission in coordination with other Chinese rescue efforts. But there have been no suspicious targets so far," said Yu Xiangdong, Director of rescue mission, destroyer Mianyang.
