A young boy in Shaoyang, Hunan province was caught at school with 20,000 yuan ($3,264) in cash he swiped from home two days earlier in order to "gamble on cards with friends" and be "cool."

A teacher alerted 4-year-old kindergartener Xinxin's (pseudonym) parents after discovering the hefty sum in his schoolbag while checking for his homework on March 5.

When confronted by school authorities, Xinxin admitted to grabbing the cash from a cabinet while his mother was out on March 3.

He also extolled how adults that gamble with piles of money look "cool" and wanted to play high-stakes cards with his friends.

Xinxin's mother told teachers she had been struggling to locate the money for the past two days, which she had set aside for a business deal.
