Senior leader Liu Yunshan on Saturday called for officials to be responsible and brave in tackling new challenges that might appear during China's deepening reform.

Liu made the remarks at the spring semester opening ceremony at the Party School of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee. He was the president of the school and a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee's Political Bureau.

A responsible official will always put the Party's cause and the people's interests first, according to Liu.

He will also dare to overcome various difficulties in China's reform and development and resist any evil and corrupt practice, Liu said.

Liu asked authorities to make the quality of being responsible a standard for selecting and promoting officials.

He also asked students of the Party school to study and act in line with the guidelines in the speeches delivered by President Xi Jinping, which Liu said is a major political task.
