(ECNS) – A web game called "Shooting the Japanese Devils" was launched Thursday on the official microblog of the People's Daily Online, according to the Southern Metropolis Daily.

Images of 14 Japanese Class-A war criminals from World War II, who are all honored at the Yasukuni Shrine, are used as shooting targets.

On the same day, China created two memorial days to mark its victory in the anti-Japanese war and to mourn victims of the 1937 Nanjing Massacre.

Opinions about the game have been mixed. A netizen called Xinxiangyuzhidao said they liked the game. Another wondered whether the game "was a means to promote patriotism," while another commenter said "the wounds of history are meant to make our country stronger, not provide game content."

People's Daily Online launched a similar game in January called "Beating the Corrupt Officials," which became a big hit with netizens.
