A man in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, was detained by police after his fingerprints matched those of the culprit who broke a bank ATM in an attempt to steal money six years ago, Yangtze Evening News reported on Friday.

The would-be thief left his fingerprints one night in January 2008 when trying to smash the ATM, but he did not get any money from the machine.

Police recorded the fingerprints but had no suspects until February 2013, when a man surnamed Qin, 25, registered his fingerprints to take a driving test for his license.

On Feb 25, a local court heard the case with the prosecutors asking to sentence Qin to one to two years imprisonment and a fine on him, but the court did not make an immediate judgment.
