Monorail planned for eastern Beijing

The Beijing Municipal Research Institute of Environmental Protection announced on February 25 that a monorail will be built in eastern Beijing. The 36-kilometer elevated railway will pass through Chaoyang and Tongzhou districts, the Beijing News reported.

Starting from Wangjing in Chaoyang district, the line will follow the Fourth Ring Road south and then head east past the Sixth Ring Road, with the terminal station located at Universal Studios in Tongzhou district. In total, 21 stations will be built for the monorail line. Investment in this project totals 20 billion yuan ($3.27 billion).

Similar lines are planned to be built in Daxing district and Fengtai district.
