One police officer and three auxiliary police officers in Lushi county, Henan province, were injured as they tried to stop a knife-wielding teenager committing suicide, local media reported on Monday.

The 16-year-old boy threatened to kill himself and locked himself and his mother in a room on the afternoon of Feb 20.

One auxiliary officer was stabbed in the heart after police broke the door open and tried to take the knife away, Dahe Daily reported.

The boy later escaped into another room and leaned against the door to stop anyone getting in. However, police later forced the door open and brought the boy under control, taking the knife from him. One police officer and two more auxiliary officers were injured in the process.

The officer who was stabbed in the heart received emergency treatment and survived his injury, while the other officers have been discharged from hospital.

The boy allegedly embarked on his suicide bid after his mother refused to give him 100 yuan ($16.4), the newspaper report said.
