China's environmental authorities have issued air quality monitoring data for the first month of the year. Hebei province in North China remains the most polluted in the country.

On the list of the ten worst polluted cities in China, six are from Hebei. The rest are located in Shandong, Sichuan, Shaanxi and Hubei provinces.

The level of PM2.5 pollutants in the air was monitored in 13 cities in North China. In January, these cities experienced, on average, just 8 days where the pollution levels met acceptable standards.
