The President of the Hangzhou Intermediate People's Court in Zhejiang province Wednesday apologized for two major cases in which the accused were wrongly sentenced and later had their charges dismissed.

Zhang Gaoping and his nephew Zhang Hui were arrested in 2003 and jailed for allegedly raping and killing a woman. In 2013, the provincial high court announced they were not guilty.

In 1995, five men were jailed charged with the murder of a taxi driver. In 2013, the provincial court ruled that two of them were not guilty.

Weng Gangliang, president of the Hangzhou court, said the court will learn from these lessons and try harder to better protect the rights of suspects.
