About 150 volunteers spent 1,200 hours sorting waste at the Daguanyuan and Changdian temple fairs in Xicheng district between January 31 to February 4. The food waste amounted to more than ten tons, the Beijing Morning Post reported.

At Changdian Temple Fair, volunteers manned 12 sorting stands to remind tourists to separate food waste from other rubbish. This volunteer service was jointly sponsored by the Beijing Xicheng Volunteer Federation and the Xicheng Commission of City Administration and Environment. The oldest volunteer was 72, and the youngest were middle school students.
