A man was stuck and killed by a train from southern Taiwan's Kaohsiung to the eastern city Hualien around 6 p.m. Thursday evening.
The train, Chu-Kuang Express No. 554, hit a man crossing the railway, 500 meters away from Taiyuan Station in Taichung city.
The man's identity is pending verification, but he may be a foreign worker.
Local railway police said that though the accident occurred on the eve of Chinese lunar new year, the peak hour of people returning home for family reunions had already passed. Trains resumed within half an hour, affecting only limited numbers of trains and passengers.
