A cold front will hit China during the country's lunar new year holiday, the national observatory said Tuesday.

The first two days of the week-long Spring Festival will see nice weather, but cold air will hit most parts of China starting February 2, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said.

Mild fog will shroud southern parts of north China, as well as the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and southwestern Sichuan province during the first two days of the holiday, which starts Jan. 31.

Temperatures may drop by six to eight degrees Celsius in central and eastern China and 10 to 14 degrees Celsius in north and northeastern China, the NMC said.

The last four days of the holiday will see light rain and snow in the southern part of northwestern China and areas along the Yellow River and Huaihe River, the NMC added.
