In a recent episode of CBS The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the Grammy award winning host and former Oscar presenter sent a special greeting to her audience in China. Besides expressing her wish to learn Chinese, she also promised she would read the name of whoever wrote his name on a Chinese 100 yuan note and mailed it to her.

The reason behind this special greeting was because audiences in China can now watch every new episode of this show simultaneously as it is aired on CBS, thanks to the Chinese video streaming website, tv.sohu.com.

This is the second American variety TV show that the website has introduced to China after Saturday Night Live. Initially popular for introducing American sitcoms to China, American variety shows have become the new target for tv.sohu.com.

The CEO of Sohu, Zhang Chaoyang said: " Watching American TV series used to be niche entertainment, now they are a mainstream phenomenon. Internet users are unfamiliar with American variety shows, but tv.sohu.com will keep promoting these TV shows to expand its influence with audiences."
