The Russian Defense Ministry says Russia and China have agreed to hold a joint naval drill in the Mediterranean Sea.

The agreement was made during talks between officers of the heavy nuclear missile cruiser "Peter the Great" and the Chinese frigate Yancheng. The two ships have just escorted the first consignment of precursors for chemical weapons transported from Syria on board a Danish ship. Under the agreement, the exercises may take place soon. They would aim to improve the ability of both sides to work together in joint rescue operations and dealing with terrorist threats.
