Luckily a drunk and distraught woman who jumped into a river after a night of drinking didn't take her down jacket off first, as it kept her afloat until rescuers could pull her ashore in Yanshi, Central China's Henan province in the early hours on Saturday.

According to witnesses, the woman surnamed Li jumped into the river after a night of karaoke and heavy drinking with a group of friends.

"She went out after a fight with her family and then drank a lot," said friend Zhang Wen.

On the way home around 2am, Zhang explains the group drove across the city's Luohe River bridge, where Li said she wanted to have a rest. Li, who cannot swim, then suddenly jumped into the river.

"She was drunk and could not let her problems go," Zhang said.

Li bobbed in the water for 20 minutes before firefighters and local police arrived in boats to rescue her, who then was taken to a local hospital. "It was her down jacket that kept her afloat," said a police officer.
