A couple, surnamed Wang, sued the Changping Women and Children Healthcare Hospital after their 40-day-old baby died, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.
According to the Wangs, the mother showed abnormal signs of water breaking last January, but the on-call doctor said there was nothing to worry about. In March, the infant died due to hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). The parents believe the hospital should be responsible for the child's death and sued them for more than one million yuan in damages.
The court ruled that the hospital holds 40 to 60 percent of the responsibility for not taking preventive measures.
