China's Generation Y, aged 18 to 30, says cash is the most important deciding factor when it comes to accepting a job offer. That's according to a recent survey. But local recruiters advise young job seekers to look beyond money to build a successful career.

22-year-old Wang Weijia will soon be looking for work. She's aiming for a promising career in fashion design.

"I think the top consideration is money because living expenses in Beijing are very expensive. I also studied and worked in the US. I have something different to offer." Student Wang Weijia said.

Wang's mentality is common amongst Chinese aged 18 to 30, according to Hays.

The global human resources firm surveyed one-thousand job seekers. More than 600 of them listed "cash" as their first priority.

"Job seekers need to be aware of the slow economy. Fresh graduates shouldn't expect a high salary but one that's good enough to cover their accommodation would be okay then expect higher pay in several years time." Recruiter Chen Shan said.

Money is especially important for job hunters from rural areas or less affluent families. Besides supporting their families, many want more money to pay for mortgages and a lavish wedding.

Graduate student Shen Zhan is an exception. He makes 100 yuan a day working as an intern at a renowned PR firm, but has his sights on something other than money.

"Money matters but it's only a temporary benefit. I think knowledge and experience are more important because it can take me to the next level." Intern Shen Zhan said.

Shen says many of his peers share his view. They would rather work for free or little money in exchange for experience.

Many also consider career training and development opportunities when accepting job offers.

23-year-old Zhang kuolin is committed to becoming a professional. He's now studying in the US and plans to join the US Army. He wants to be tough enough to handle any job, professionally.
