The man who stole a gold bracelet worth about 20,000 yuan ($3,294) Tuesday from Yong'an Department Store was brought back to Shanghai in police custody Sunday, eastday.com reported.
Police arrested the suspected thief, surnamed Xiao, 28, Saturday night at his hometown in Fujian province.
The report said Xiao had a gambling problem, 58,000 yuan in credit card debt and owed money to several people.
He sold the bracelet for 14,700 yuan Tuesday, but quickly gambled it all away, the report said.
