Christmas in China is often seen as a couples' festival, rather than a family occasion. Matchmaking website jiayuan.com launched a survey about how singletons in China spend their Christmas Eve Tuesday. The results show that 38.63 percent of men choose to go together with friends to public entertainment venues, expecting to hunt for love, with a success rate as high as 55.35 percent.
A man surnamed Pan living in Lanzhou, Gansu province said, "Actually people usually take part in parties but the normal party scale isn't big, unlike Christmas parties in the West. Everybody wants to enjoy the day, I must not miss the chance to meet a new girl."
Zhang Jiarui, one of the website's analysts, said that men always spend Christmas in public places, because they intend to hunt for love and believe parties offer wider pickings.
Zhang reminded people that while expanding your friendship circle appropriately is a good thing, there are some criminals who take advantage of people's vulnerability when looking for love, and people should avoid being conned.
