Over 200 Myanmar women citizens have applied with the Labor Ministry to work in China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) as house maids following the opening to such overseas employment opportunities by the Myanmar government, local media reported Monday.

A Hong Kong agency, the Golden Mind Employment Agency, will send for the 200 Myanmar women citizens as the first batch to take up the jobs in the region, the Voice quoted the Directorate of Labor as saying.

Hong Kong is the second region where Myanmar women are allowed by the government to officially work as house maids after Singapore starting this year.

Myanmar's official granting of such overseas employment in wake of shortage of the Philippine women house maids in Hong Kong has helped solve unemployment issue domestically.

Myanmar consular in Hong Kong was cited as saying that it is safe to work in Hong Kong as Hong Kong law protects the rights of house maids working there.
