One million more Chinese will have been connected to national grid this year and the entire population will have electricity in 2015, said the National Energy Administration on Thursday.

China is a vast country with frequently inhospitable terrain and many remote villages. Connecting them all is a Herculean task and a hurdle that keeps people from escaping poverty.

Now, everyone in Inner Mongolia has electricity and the basic power needs of all Tibetans are met, according to the administration.

Official data showed that only two years ago, around 500,000 people, or one fifth of the total population of Tibet, were without access.

China plans full electricity coverage by 2015. Grids will be connected to more destinations and more independent solar power supply systems will be constructed in remote areas.
