A boy who had his eyes gouged out in north China's Shanxi province is in good condition and will soon be discharged, local hospital sources said on Wednesday.

The C-MER (Shenzhen) Dennis Lam Eye Hospital said Binbin, 6, had recovered well from the eye implant surgery and will leave the hospital on Thursday.

Upon discharge, local authorities in Shanxi will help him find a suitable school, according to Binbin's parents.

He had surgery in the hospital on Sept. 10. He had an artificial eye (ocular prosthesis) implanted in his right eye and an eyelid transplant on his left.

He also receives regular psychological guidance and visual rehabilitation training.

The boy showed extremely insecurity and dependence on his mother two months ago, but has become less dependent and more open.

Binbin was lured into a field by a woman who gouged out his eyes on Aug. 24. The incident sparked nationwide outrage.
