A senior judge in Central China's Hubei province is being probed for maintaining an extramarital affair, the Hubei Higher People's Court said late Monday.

Zhang Jun, head of the court's third division of criminal cases, has been suspended from his duty and his position will be removed upon approval by relevant authority, the court said in a statement.

Investigation against Zhang was launched by the court and the Communist Party discipline inspection authority of Hubei after alleged video footage showing Zhang buying sex appeared on the Internet.

The investigators discovered that Zhang has maintained an improper relationship with an identified woman for a sustained period.
