PM 2.5 particles in Nanjing at dangerous levels

Many cities in the east of China have been suffering heavy smog for several days now. Authorities in Nanjing have issued the highest air pollution alert, and it's expected to continue for another three days.

PM 2.5 levels were above 300 micrograms per cubic meter in most urban areas, that's at least 12 times World Health Organization standards.

Authorities have told construction sites to stop work to reduce dust, and classes are suspended at primary schools and kindergartens. Residents are being advised to limit outdoor activities, and to wear masks if they go outside.
